Safety slips are tools used in oil and gas drilling operations to prevent the drilling tools from sliding down during make-up or break-out. The range of pipe diameters they can clamp can be adjusted by changing the number of segments in the jaw sleeve.

Safety slips:

1.Before use, measure the actual outer diameter of the drill collar to check if it falls within the clamping range of this type of drill collar slip.

2.Do not adjust the applicable range by increasing or decreasing the number of slip body segments.

3.Before use, check whether all pins rotate flexibly and whether there is any jamming.

4.It is strictly forbidden to strike the handle and the back cone surface of the slip with a sledgehammer, or drop the slip from a high place, so as to avoid damaging the handle and the back cone surface.

5.The slips should be cleaned regularly to keep their surface clean. Apply lubricating grease to the rotating parts and back cone surface to prevent rust.

6.Inspect the slips regularly:

a. Check if the fixing bolts of the slip jaw pressure plate are loose to prevent the slip jaws from falling into the well.

b. Check if the slip jaws are blunt.

c. Use a straightedge to check the wear of the slip body cone.

d. Check the wear of the slip body connecting pin.

7.When the slip jaws are worn, they should be replaced completely in time. Never use a combination of new and old slip jaws, so as to avoid damaging the jaws, slip body or drill collar.

8.Remove abrasive substances from the cone surface of the master bushing to reduce wear on the back cone surface of the slips.

9.Regularly check the wear of the master bushing's cone surface and measure the diameter of the small end of the cone surface. If the size exceeds 270mm due to wear, the master bushing should be replaced in time to prevent the drill collar slips of a certain model from slipping into the well when clamping smaller sizes.

10.When not in use for a long time, clean the slips, apply anti-rust oil, and store them in a dry and ventilated place.
