At present, China's oil extraction methods include self-flowing production and mechanical production. Mechanical production, on the other hand, uses various types of pumps to extract crude oil from the well. At present, China's oil extraction is mainly based on mechanical production. Different mechanical extraction methods are adopted according to different geological conditions and oil properties.

For thin oil with a viscosity of less than 50 mPa·s and a density of less than 0.934, conventional extraction is generally used. For heavy oil with a viscosity of more than 50 mPa·s and a density of more than 0.934, thermal recovery is usually adopted, that is, the methods of thermal steam huff and puff, thin oil blending and heat tracing are used.

In winter, due to the low outdoor temperature, the oil in the pipeline has a high wax content, and the pipe fittings are prone to freezing and blocking. The traditional way is to use fire, but using an open flame violates the regulations prohibiting open flames in the oil production area, and oilfield solid control equipment is prone to accidents. Heating with electric heating plates also damages the original insulation layer.
